You have two-four years at college to make the most of your studies while having fun. You should realize that it is really important to succeed in study and have a good time outside of your class during the college years. Work hard and play hard – keep that balance.

How to Have Fun in College?

When you become a first-year student, you may be slightly disappointed because of leaving your school, friends, habitual life. At the same time, you are excited about what is next.

You will receive much advice from your friends, parents, and student forums on how to make your college life funnier. So, here are several tips on how to have fun in college.

1. Live in dorm

Are you going to live in a dorm or out of campus? Of course, when you live in a dorm you may not have such creatures of comfort as an air conditioner, TV, and private bath.

Nevertheless, you will learn how to make new friends and live as an independent adult. Don’t worry if you have to cook and do laundry on your own. Student monotony can stop be struggling when you change your attitude and look on the bright side of what is going on with you.

Make your college life the best time of your career. Just relax and enjoy your independence. A student dorm is a place for noisy parties, relaxation evenings, movie nights, and honest kitchen talks. Besides, it is conveniently located to your morning class.

Student dorms are where people bond very tightly. Learning how to live in close quarters with others is a solid life experience. Develops communication and toughness skills. I am not kidding you.

Plus, you save money. You can rent an apartment later, in your senior years or grad school.

2. Arrange theme parties

The first thing you should know about students, they like arranging parties. Theme parties happen at the drop of a hat. Is it Christmas time? It’s the right time for Sleighs and Leis. Big and small parties count. All these themes are a lot of fun, especially when you have to wear a funny bunny suit for a petting-zoo party.

Halloween is big in college. It is probably the biggest party of all. Make sure you do the best of it. Try to build your first group of friends before your first Halloween time.

3. Put together a picnic or trip

Are you feeling unwell? It is time to buy one or two of your favorite snacks, grab your friends, and find a good place for a picnic. This does not have to be a money-wasting (or alcohol-wasting) hangout.

Fruits and sandwiches are enough for student lunch. Just wear your favorite jeans, color your face, invent an interesting road game, and have fun together.

Go outside, enjoy outdoors somewhere, do a trip together, see things together. Fun times. Planning joint activities helps with building teams later in your career. I am serious about it. It is learning about how to be part of the team.

4. Go study abroad

Everyone knows that college students have a chance to travel around the world. How? Sooner or later, you’ll have the opportunity to move to a new state, city, or country by student exchange program or language courses.

Let it be a week or a month.

Nevertheless, this is your chance to study abroad. If there is a specific place you want to go, just check your college exchange programs and see if that place is available.

Anyway, you may talk to your study abroad adviser to build up your study program. Traveling will give you a unique opportunity to make more friends and see more interesting places during your college years.

You will learn new things about new places – from language to culture, architecture, and arts. You will gain a new perspective on the world. You may make new friends abroad. You will have memories, photos, and videos that will make you smile for the rest of your life. Been there, done that kind of feeling. Sense of accomplishments.

5. Travel with friends

Wherever you study, you can find many worth-to-see places around. Almost every town, every state, and the country is full of attractions. To travel, you don’t even need to book a ticket or take a car. You can ride a bike or go hiking to never miss any of the natural wonders.

There are so many interesting activities are waiting for you: fishing, exploring hiking trails, visiting festivals, national parks. You can go to the student forums for more ideas for your traveling weekends.

Of course, the first area you have to explore is the area around your college. Rent a car, use your car, pick up a couple of close friends, and become tourists for the rest of the day. Rental companies are loyal to young drivers.

Finally, if you have just two-three hours to waste, go shopping at the nearest outlet. Take photos, post them on social media, and advise other college students how to have fun in college for cheap and without alcohol.

6. Get a part-time job

First of all, you go to college to get good skills for the future, hoping to make good money and support yourself. The knowledge you get at the college is mostly theoretical. You need more practice to boost your skill and vary the program.

You have a chance to feel and realize what a real job is. Besides, you will get more free money for your personal needs.

You may try to get an on-campus job and get even more connections there. I worked on and off-campus when I was in college. On-campus is the most convenient. But eventually, you will need to try to find an of-campus job related to your field of study, preferably.

7. Use College Facilities

This is big. Many colleges have spent millions of dollars investing in on-campus facilities an amenity. From modern gyms and swimming pools to spas and bowling alleys. Also, state-of-the-art libraries and study buildings.

Make sure you try most or all of such facilities. After all, you are paying for it. I used gyms heavily and enjoyed it. From workouts to sparring sessions with some martial arts junkies.

I used health facilities for checkups. I used libraries to study and just read magazines sometimes. I used billiards and bowling alleys. I went to concerts organized locally on-campus.

8. Join clubs or organizations

This is another way to build your future professional network. This is a chance to meet lifetime like-minded friends who will stay your friends regardless of where you work. Because you will have some other interests in common.

From politics and social issues to animals or even beauty mutual teaching – you will have a huge selection. Go there and do that. Learn how to deal with people in the organization.

9. What NOT to do in College

Do not drink too much alcohol. This is a waste of your time and health. It is not fun – it is a waste. That is why people say that you are “wasted” when you are too drunk. Do NOT do drinking under the legal age limit. Do NOT go to bars to drink if you are under legally allowed drinking age.

Do not do heavy drugs. Do not do heavy drugs. Do not do heavy drugs.

Do not do anything illegal. Learn how to live in society.

Do not make enemies. Learn how to apologize and ignore stupid. Make friends only.

MAIN THING TO DO FOR HAVING FUN AT COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Private or community college…it doesn’t matter, except for the cost of attendance. Community college is cheaper and takes just two years of attendance. Nevertheless, no one can stop you from having fun. How? There is just one thing to do for having fun at college. Set the goal.

Of course, you want to find a good practice to transfer to other respected college or university. These goals will take most of your time. Of course, you will do everything to feel prepared and focused on your study goal.

You can manage your time and schedule your day in the way to reach your goal step by step. You know, it would be difficult to have fun at college if you don’t know why you are here and what you are going to do at college.

Finally, with your study plan and clear priorities in mind, you’re ready to have fun at college. Otherwise, how could you plan a friendly hangout for the weekend, if you have to stick the books?

If only you have a plan for what you are going to do with your study, you can relax and enjoy yourself. Otherwise, you will worry about every wasted hour and struggle to study hard and have fun at the same time.

Leaving school for college is often scary. Just look at this problem on its bright side. Saying Goodbye to your parents and home is not that difficult.
